Welcome to Balas Nagtaros Island

This particular Island is one of the less explored natural areas in the southwestern section of Pangasinan.

How to get there?
Dasol os quite far from Manila and direct travel time is between five to six hours.

Balas Nagtaros Island was located in Dasol Bay, Dasol Pangasinan.

The island look craggy from afar, and indeed, it proved to be one as they boat's engine was killed and there boy co-coptaion started manuvering the craft by swimming and puahing the entire boat into its rock-strewn shore.
I was amazed at what that little sunburnt kid could do.

The cove we docked on looked unsuitable for swimming bare-foot as the beach was literally covered withrocks and sharp corals. Good thing this was not where our guide planned for us to spend the day in. Balas Nagtaros Island is about thrice the size of Colibra, but were not able to explore much of it since the midday heat was just killing us. I was able to glimpse another cove from where we were supposed to go but it was really just too hot to go exploring.
Rocky Shore at Dasol's Balas Nagtaros Island

The cove it is similarly covered with sharp pebbly rocks. There is a spot with cream-colored sand on the its sides.

We where go to the Cabacugan cave at Dasol's Balas Nagtaros Island, a carved into one of the rock walls of the cove.
It was easy enough for us to wiggle our way into the cave and once inside, we were greated with a cool pool of clear waterabout four feef deep. The cave goes on to about thirty feet or so with an opening at its far side i to the sea. The water at the middle part slopes down to about ten feet deep as yoy approach the mouth. It was fun wading inside this natural pool away from the harsh light of the midday sun.

Once we got tired of the cave,it was time to go swimming outside.
The water at Cabacugan Cove was crystal clear and was not that deep. The waves werw gentle but gets stronger as you get farther away from the shore. The seabed remains cknstant at two to three feet deep but drops vertically to about thirty feet after yoh reach a certain point.
When you're all alone on a part of the watsr where you can hardly glimpse the sea floor.

We spent quite a while on this beach, wading in the cave pool, swimming at sandy part of the shore and snorkeling the rocky areas for fishes.
In hindsight to Balas Nagtat
Roa Island is far more interesting place to explore than Colibra. It's just too bad that we got there when the heat of the day was just too much. I recommend going there in the afternokn, you have to brave the rougher midday waters but the reward of a setting sun against the craggy rock fortifications of tgis island would more than enough compensation for the discomfort of the journey.

The waves were quite a different story here in Balas Nagtaros Island.
We were unable to dock at the southern part of the island due to the huge waves and have a circle to its northern portio where a small channel is located. The place is quite calm compared to the surrounding areas since it ia protected by the souther end of the mainland and the northernportion of the island.
Cabacugan cave was virtually Impenetrable during our viait due to the strong waves that slams through the shore, so we contented ourselves into swimming along the channel on the opposite side of the cave.

Tondol Beach is the one of best beach here in Pangasinan. Tondol beach is located at the northern tip of Anda, an island municipality that used to be acceddible only by boat across the nareow Catubig Channel. In the early 1990's a bridgw across the channel was construcrmted to connect the island with mainland Pangasinan.

Travel Tips:
It's best to visit Tondol during the summer or dry months when the skies are blue, the beach is cleaer and does not have as much debris( most of it biodegradable anyway) as during the rainy months. Tondol is also best enjoyed during low tide. The tides can vary from week to week so it's safer to stay for one whole dat at tondol .

What makes tondol unique is its long, shallow nature.  There is an island Tanduyong-almost a kilometer awat which can be reached on foot during low tide. There is a considerable amount of marine life besides the startfish and crabs on the shallow beach. Nina,s nephew observed a school of small fish swirling around him in shallow water on the way to Tanduyong Island.
